The technique
used for the Spirit
Series sculptures is called raking. "Raking" 1/4 inch
glass strips were stacked on their side and fired at a high
temperature and manipulated by raking. Once the glass is cooled,
it is cut on a tile saw and fired on top of the glass piece.
Many of my discs have holes that were cut before firing. Small
pieces of copper enamel hang in the center. In addition to
the raked sculptures, other pieces in this series include hand
pulled stringers and pre-fired glass pieces.
