I started working with glass as a
hobbyist in 1984 and continued to do so as the family
transferred around New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, while
following my husband's career. In 1992, my husband and I
settled in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. I looked for ways to do glass
work full time. I built a business by designing and constructing
residential stained glass, as well as teaching classes in stained
glass and warm glasswork. In 2002, I expanded my business into a
full retail glass shop.
Having a background in stained glass
work gave me the discipline and structure I found I needed to start
working with warm glass. My first experiences with the kiln was
heating glass over molds to make my stained glass panels
three-dimensional, which set my stained glass work apart. I
continued working with the kiln and also the minor bench burner
(torch). As I learned new techniques, I continued to incorporate
these techniques into my fused work.
I have been fascinated by glass and
color of any kind since early childhood. This has become a means of
expressing my personal themes and ideas. I will continue to
challenge myself to grow and learn while enjoying the whole journey
along the way.
While running a successful and profitable business, I am an active
member and participate in the following associations:
Art Glass Association
Cumberland Valley Arts and Antiques
Downtown Carlisle Association
Corning Museum of Glass
Gallery 30
The Garden Gallery
International Guild of Glass Artists, Inc.
In addition, I participate at many
art shows annually and I also teach workshops through the winter
months on different glass techniques.
My work has been featured November through December 2006 at "The
Garden Gallery" (A Matter of Glass) and Profitable Glass
Quarterly/Winter 2006 issue.
I have been a regular student at the
Studio at Corning, New York, and continue to take advanced warm
glass classes with known Glass Artists from around the country. I
live and work in Carlisle, Pennsylvania with my husband and our
canine friend, "Kando" and our equine friend, "Skidd". |
